It has been a while since I began my journey with this “Life Through the Lens” blog – April 16, 2011 to be exact. For 366 days, I photographed and blogged about what was happening in the Bullard household, our family, our friends and simply everyday life. And thanks to my readers, I received a ton of feedback. Most family and friends say they now miss the daily updates and I kept promising to pick up the task again. So gang – here it is!
For the month of February, I will again take on the task of a daily photograph (or two or three) and blog about our family and day-to-day life. Why start in February, you might ask? Well, for a couple of reasons. The first reason came from a book I am reading on my Kindle Fire called Elevate the Everyday: A Photographic Guide to Picturing Motherhood by Tracey Clark. This book brought to light the fact that I, as a mother and a photographer, have the responsibility as the family’s historian…to document life in words and pictures for generations to come. I am working on that task now with this current blog, but also by taking on the laborious task of putting together a self- published book of my original blog, Life Through The Lens. The book is a constant work in progress while I work two jobs and raise a family. I would love to outsource the project if it wasn’t for my limited resources! I hope to have the book finished by the end of the year, as a Christmas gift to myself.
The other reasons for starting in February are two-fold. Not only will I be celebrating another birthday this month, but February 13th will mark the one-year anniversary of my Father’s passing. A small group of girls are joining me on a weekend trip to Monterey at the end of the month to bring my Father to Pebble Beach, a golf course he always wanted to play but could never afford. He is going to love the views!
So amidst the busy work of family life, the day-to-day law office grind and part-time contract work for Bella Baby Photography, I am going to take time out everyday to photograph for pleasure – to document life through the lens as my family’s historian. I hope you enjoy the journey with me.
Day One: What better way to start off the first blog of the month than with an early morning photograph of Walker wearing his favorite stripped beanie. He loves this beanie so much that most nights, he’s been sleeping with it on his head!
