The girls and I headed out about 8:30 p.m. for our trip to Monterey. We stopped in Summerland to have breakfast at the Summerland Beach Cafe. Luckily, we all split omelets because the breakfasts were HUGE and delicious.
We got back onto the road around 10:00 a.m. and arrived at the Navy Lodge in Monterey just before 2:00 p.m. The area is just beautiful and as it turns out, only a few minutes drive to Fisherman’s Wharf. We dropped off luggage, grabbed our cameras and headed into town. The Navy Lodge provided us with free appetizer coupons for Old Fisherman’s Grotto, informing us that they had the best sourdough bowl clam chowder around. Of course, that’s where we ended up for lunch and they were right. The bread, the bowls, the chowder – everything was awesome, including the drinks Pam and I ordered that arrived “flaming”. What an experience!
Afterwards, we walked around the wharf, then went to Wine From The Heart for some wine tasting. The wines were okay, but I did find a bottle of wine that was from “Pierce” wineries so of course, since we came up for here for Dad, I had to buy the bottle if only for its namesake. We are going to bring the bottle along with us tomorrow for our trip down 17 Mile Drive. Not sure that we will open it, but it may end up in a photograph or two.
